Garry Benjamin has been making dance for over 20 years. In his pursuits as both a creator and educator, Garry has visited 13 countries, worked with more than 25,000 students -ranging from children to professional dancers; and has performed at many venues across the world.

Garry has performed and choreographed pieces which range from set choreography, structured improvisation, and pure improvisation. Garry sees improvisation as an art and choreography as a vehicle to further develop his work in improvisation. Garry is committed to art as a cultural exchange, developing the creative process in a world without borders.

Originally trained at Northern School of Contemporary Dance, he has then worked with Emilyn Claid, Laurie Booth, Janet Smith, Doug Elkins, Raphael Bonachela, and was a core member and eventually rehearsal director for Union Dance. Garry’s technique, hence, draws from various influences and styles: Capoeira, B-Boying and Release Techniques to name a few. This unique blend of styles has been very sought after by festivals, dance companies and institutions.
